Event Finissage in Lauchhammer, Finissage
Section Biennale
Date 23 Aug 2026
Info 3:00 p.m.
Location Heinrich-Zille-Str. 1 Lauchhammer, District Oberspreewald-Lausitz
To mark the end of the exhibitions at the Kunstgussmuseum Lauchhammer and at Zillestraße 1, the two venues will come together once again.
The joint closing event invites visitors to experience the various artistic perspectives in context and to continue the dialogue between industrial heritage, vacant spaces, and contemporary art.
On the occasion of the closing event, a special screening of the video work Letzte Kumpel (2025) will take place from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. at Heinrich-Zille-Str. 1, with the protagonists and the artist Johannes Weilandt in attendance. Four former miners from the Mansfeld region in Saxony-Anhalt recount their working lives and the disappearance of their livelihoods. Over 800 years of mining shaped the landscape and the people of the Mansfeld mining district. With the closure of the mines in the early 1990s, a gap in the region’s identity emerged that has yet to be filled. This discussion offers a unique opportunity to gain insights into the work and to hear directly from the miners of the past.
Afterward, we’ll head together to the Kunstgussmuseum.
A guided tour and an artist talk with participating artists from both exhibitions will offer insights into the creation of the works and their engagement with the respective locations. The focus will be on exchange, questions, and conversation—as a joint conclusion to the two exhibitions and as the finale of the Lauchhammer stop on the openart Lausitz Biennale.
