Schulz studied fine arts at the HBK Braunschweig (1996–2003) under John Armleder, Birgit Hein, and Thomas Virnich, and is a master student of John Armleder.

In both her media installations and her photographic works, she explores the ambivalent nature of the image as both a reflection and a construction of reality. In doing so, she demonstrates the transience of the moment by combining short video sequences or photographic elements into collage-like visual structures.

She draws on an extensive collection of self-produced photographs, video sequences, and still images, as well as found image and film material from the media and the Internet, which, through unusual combinations, gives rise to new layers of meaning.

Her works are exhibited worldwide. She has received various grants, and her works are included in major collections, including the Goetz Collection in Munich and the Center for Art and Media (ZKM) in Karlsruhe.

Work Title: VENTOUX VII - Wer arbeitet im Boden - Who works in the soil?

VENTOUX is a body of work that explores the fundamental contrast between nature and culture.

The various realizations of the VENTOUX series (since 2011) are not redundant repetitions, but rather installations that must be reimagined anew in each instance, condensed as a work in progress. Location and time are essential factors in this process. Each new iteration represents the current state of the thematic and artistic reflection on the subject.

For Lusatia, the project presents the soils within our cultural sphere.

Who Works in the Soil?

The installation depicts all those visible and invisible actors who are active beneath the earth’s surface, shaping, nurturing, or altering the soil. The focus is on processes within the earth’s layers.
