For as active participants in the urban environment, these plants—by their very presence—raise questions about migration, adaptation, and tolerance.

In her work, Claudia Pilsl uses the analog photographic technique known as the phytogram. In this process, plants are arranged directly on light-sensitive paper and exposed to light through natural processes. This creates visual traces without a camera—through a collaboration between people, plants, and materials. The paper serves as both a sensitive medium and a catalyst.

Through joint walks and workshops, an open artistic process emerges that offers insights into the artist’s working methods. The formats explicitly invite participants to join in without prior knowledge, to engage in conversation with one another, and to perceive their surroundings in new ways. The collected traces and resulting images are then brought together in an installation.

10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Walk A stroll off the beaten path in the vicinity of Heinrich-Zille-Str. 1 in search of “weeds.”

3:00–6:00 p.m. Phytogram Workshop In the afternoon, the plants collected that morning will be transformed into photographic works (phytograms) that will become part of the installation.

The walk and workshop are intended as a single, interconnected event. The sessions on August 2 and 4 can be booked separately.
Please bring an empty glass jar with a screw-top lid; all other materials will be provided by the artist. Please wear clothing that can get “dirty.”
