Karen Modrei is an interdisciplinary artist who has been living and working as a freelancer in Munich since 2021. After training as a tailor, she studied architecture at the Bauhaus University in Weimar, graduating with a Bachelor of Science. She went on to study textile art at Konstfack in Stockholm, Sweden, graduating with a Master of Arts.
In her artistic practice, she explores the relationship between bodies and spaces, their experiences and dynamics, and the negotiability of boundaries and intimacy. Her work is interdisciplinary and combines craftsmanship, installation, machine manipulation, sound art and performance to translate complex interrelationships into accessible, material and embodied forms of expression.
