YOUNG ART

The Youth Program is part of the 1st openart Lausitz Biennale 2026. This section allows young people to explore their perspectives and go behind the scenes of an international art biennale. It targets youths aged 12 to 21 interested in contemporary art and eager to develop curatorial skills. The program offers various insights into creating and displaying art, including visits to biennale venues, museums, and studios.

Participants are encouraged to share their curiosity, enthusiasm, and ideas. Along with guest artists and other young people, they will create artistic works that will be showcased at the Biennale. Initially, the project will mainly use the facilities of the Atelierhof Werenzhain in the Elbe-Elster district. Later, plans are set to expand to partner districts and Cottbus.

The following are invited.

Interested young people, especially students and trainees in transitional situations and those with migration or refugee backgrounds, can register through schools, youth centers, art schools, or our website.

Scope and Dates

The project will begin in October 2025 with an introductory phase, followed by selecting various art forms. Individual working methods will be taught through hands-on exercises during later workshop weekends and two art camps over the holidays. Plans also include visits to museums and collaborative dance performances.

The following items are planned:

8 workshop weekends.
Two art camps, each lasting six days.
Two performances.
1 two-week exhibition.

Open studio on Wednesday afternoons for optional artistic practice. Participation in all workshops is encouraged but not required. A minimum number of workshop days to be completed will be agreed upon individually.
