Results of the jury meeting to select artists for the 1st Openart Lausitz Biennale 2026

At the end of November, a jury appointed by curator Michaela van den Driesch selected 40 artists for the 1st Openart Lausitz Biennale 2026 from numerous applications.

The jury consisted of the following experts:

Ulrike Kremeier (jury chair) Director of the Brandenburg State Museum of Modern Art (BLMK), Board Member of the Brandenburg Cultural Foundation Cottbus-Frankfurt (Oder) (BKC-F)

Leonie Baumann Curator of the Capital Cultural Fund, former Rector of the Berlin-Weißensee Academy of Art

Christoph Tannert Art historian, curator of Rohkunstbau 2025, former director of the Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin

Matthias Körner Freelance artist from Cottbus

Nini Palavandishvili Curator, managing director of the Deutscher Künstlerbund e.V.

The decisive factors for the selection were in particular:

- artistic quality and originality
- relevance to the Biennale theme “Art shapes spaces”
- conceptual strength and feasibility
- connection to the Lusatia region
